THE LISTENING BODY

After more than six years away, Deva Premal & Miten are returning to Australia. This October, their Singing Our Prayers tour brings evenings of ancient Sanskrit mantra, contemplative song and ecstatic collective meditation.

Mantra works on the body before it works on the mind. Sound travels through tissue, bone, the nervous system — and science is catching up to what chanters have always known. Stress eases. The nervous system regulates. Stillness, it turns out, is biological.

Deva & Miten have spent 35 years proving it. Here's how we think about preparing your body to receive it.

Still the Mind

The nervous system is where mantra begins. Before sound can move through you, the static must settle. Ashwagandha — one of Ayurveda's most treasured adaptogens — has been shown to calm nerves and support the body's stress response. Lemon Balm relieves nervous tension and stress, bringing a quieter calm: the kind that eases the mind without dulling it.

Receive the Light

"The courage to step out of the shadows and into my own light.." - Deva Premal

Ayurveda and Sanskrit mantra share the same ancient roots. Turmeric has been part of that tradition for over 5,000 years - honoured not just for what it does in the body, but for what it represents. The Gayatri Mantra is a prayer dedicated to the light that dwells within us all. This is ours.

Ground the Body

Long before Western science gave them names, mushrooms and mountain minerals were part of the world's oldest healing traditions. Reishi for deep calm. Shiitake for vitality. Turkey Tail for resilience.

Shilajit - a mineral resin drawn from Himalayan rock over millennia - one of Ayurveda's most revered rasayanas. Earth medicines, for a body preparing to go deeper.

Open the Heart

"You can't sing with a closed heart. You just can't do it." - Deva Premal

For the heart, we reach for algal oil Omega-3 — the original plant source, entirely vegan without compromise — alongside Resveratrol and Astaxanthin, two of nature's most powerful antioxidants. This is how we care for the body's most essential muscle.
